Rifle Police Department – Community Invite Letter

Community member,

It has always been my belief that, in order to be effective, a community’s police department must reflect the values and priorities of the community. When the values and priorities of the Police Department start to drift away from the values and priorities of the community, there is a real disconnect that limits the effectiveness of the Department. In order to make sure that our values mirror that of the community, it is up to us to reach out, to you, to make sure that you have a say in how we police Rifle. Inclusion of the community, in a meaningful way, in the strategic planning process provides us the opportunity to align our activities with your expectations.

On May 9th and 10th, the Rifle Police Department will be going through the first phase of developing a strategic plan, which will guide the Rifle Police Department in its efforts. It is my goal to have community inclusion in the process. We are looking for community members to be a part of this planning process, through participation in a one and one half hour facilitated focus group.

Date: April 10th
Time: 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
Where: Rifle Police Department
What: Facilitated Focus Group (All supplies, and lunch, will be provided)

I know that schedules get busy, but I am hoping that you will be available to participate in this effort. Your input will go a long way toward making the Rifle Police Department the best law enforcement agency on the Western Slope.

Respectfully,

John Dyer
Chief of Police
Rifle Police Department

Celebrating 60 Years!

Thank you to our special event sponsors who helped make this year’s Annual Dinner and Awards Banquet possible: Cheryl and Company Real Estate, Hampton Inn and Suites and NLS Business Solutions. Congratulations to our 2013 award winners:

Becky Mall was named the first Ambassador of the Year by the Chamber Ambassadors, a group of volunteers who help welcome new businesses to Rifle and take part in other functions.

Kristine Llacuna, owner of Lady Bug Express in downtown Rifle, was given the Woman of Distinction award.

Dan Niedbalski, a senior vice president of Alpine Bank, was named Person of the Year and received the Oren H. Harmon Memorial Award, named after one of the chamber’s founders.

The Jim Lord Agency-American Family Insurance won the Business of the Year award.

Karen Rhoades received the John B. Scalzo Lifetime Achievement Award from the award’s namesake, John Scalzo.

Thank you as well to all the members helping on the committee, everyone that donated items for the live and silent auctions, Lynne Miller and her Grand River Café Staff and to Rockin Rob With Boogie Down Lights and Sound for providing awesome music.

As I write this it appears spring may have sprung on our bustling City and with it will come the call of “Fore” at Rifle Creek Golf Course. Yes it is that time of year, the 35th Annual Weiss and Associates Golf Tournament. Space as always is very limited, so get signed up quick or give Gina a call for sponsorship opportunities if you’re not a golfer but want to help out.

We have a lot of very exciting news that will be coming your way soon concerning member benefits. Your Chamber Staff and Board of Directors are working hard to make your membership work for you and your business. Stay tuned!

Last but certainly not least I would like to bid farewell to one of our Board members; Bobby Seidlitz with Elwood Staffing (formerly SOS) will be accepting a transfer to Amarillo TX beginning in April. Thanks Bobby for all your hard work and nothing but best wishes for you and your family in the next adventure.

Please and as always, remember to support our community by shopping local whenever possible, have a great April!

Sunsense Solar Wins the SunPower 2013 “Intelegant Award for Excellence”
Recognized for Design and Installation of High Efficiency Rooftop Solar Power System at Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and US Courthouse
CARBONDALE, Colo., March 18, 2014 – Sunsense Solar, a Colorado-based solar installer and SunPower Premier Dealer, today announced that it has received the national SunPower “Intelegant Award for Excellence” for a 123-kilowatt solar photovoltaic project installed on the roof of the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Grand Junction, Colo., in 2013.

The SunPower Intelegant Award recognizes residential and commercial dealer installations that exemplify SunPower’s commitment to excellence in aesthetics, quality, workmanship and customer satisfaction. This is an annual award open to the nearly 400 SunPower dealer partners throughout the United States. Sunsense Solar received the 2010 Residential Intelegant Award and has now been honored with the prestigious 2013 Commercial Intelegant Award.

On winning, Sunsense Solar President and Owner Scott Ely said, “We feel honored to have won this award and we are proud to have been a partner with the General Services Administration (GSA), The Beck Group and SunPower to provide a high profile project with a high quality solution.”

When approached with the opportunity to design a solar power system as part of the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse modernization project, the design team at Sunsense saw only one solution to ensure maximum energy production despite the limited roof area and a newly constructed canopy. SunPower E Series solar panels with efficiencies of 20 percent were the perfect fit. Sunsense Solar worked closely with SunPower engineers to craft a design that met both the building’s net-zero production targets as well as its very strict aesthetic requirements.

Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse modernization project not only preserved an iconic landmark in the state’s Grand Junction community, but also converted it into one of the most energy efficient and sustainable historic buildings in the country. The building carries a LEED Platinum certification and is the first site net-zero energy building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“The knowledge, experience, creativity, professionalism and patience this team brought to the table was a major factor in the success of the Aspinall Project,” said Jim Fredenburg, assistant project manager with The Beck Group.

About Sunsense Solar
Established in 1990, Sunsense Solar is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor covering all of Colo. and adjoining states. Sunsense has rapidly grown into one of the premier solar electric design and installation companies in Colo., working in both the commercial and utility markets. Sunsense Solar has also designed and installed several community solar gardens.
